SUBTLE TRAGEDIES and ANXIETY

The condition of the house is important enough
to put first on our priorities and continue to
put first until the atmosphere strengthens our
tired bones and soothes our fatigued souls.

1. Message of the Day

SUBTLE TRAGEDIES

One of the problems of living in a cluttered way is the tragedies it brings into our lives. Some are public. Some are private affairs. Some are subtle.

We lose important and irreplaceable photos. Organizing important projects is a struggle. Our social life is limited by the condition of the house. We can't find valuable papers or misplaced bonds. Insurance papers are not available when needed. Receipts are gone and we have to absorb the loss. We stumble in the dark because the flashlight is missing. We can't get the help we need on the road because we misplaced the cell phone.

On and on it goes. Vow to stop mistreating yourself and your family. Abandon your messy ways and create a wholesome and supportive lifestyle.

Do not do to yourself what you would not allow anyone else to do to you. Some tragedies are out of our control. Let us control those that we can by living a sanely, organized life.

3. Habit of the Day

Make your bed every day, every day, every day.

No more lumpy, messy sheets, pillows, and covers casting a pall over the whole house. Instead, you will have a beautiful neat aura emanating from the bedroom. If all you do is pull it up, that is better than nothing.

Don't try to do it perfectly. Just do it.

4. Family Reminder of the Day

In our family, we don't make messes or create work for others.

In our family, we don't boss others. We focus on our own responsibilities.

5. Quote of the Day

As a man begins to live more seriously within, he begins to live more simply without.

DISCUSSION ABOUT ANXIETY

I've been going to counseling because of all the pressure and turmoil in my life and while I was there I was asked "if I could wake up tomorrow and have whatever I wanted changed what would be different?"

I said I would have a clean house. By the end of my appointment she told me I could have a clean house. This is what my problem was, I only hope that I can help someone else with this simple explanation.

Here it is: I needed the mess so I always had something to do. I was afraid of the clean house because what would I do if it was clean, I couldn't complain, there would be no fights, I would be bored, afraid of having nothing to do. She was right my house is 75% better in one week and I got a hobby that I only do when the work for the day is done and that only takes an hour in the morning. I hope this helps someone else the way it has helped me.

Babs

Hi Babs.
I'm Ana and I've been feeling something similar about mess. It's hard to change something that has made part of our lives for such a long time! I felt anxious, stressed and it seemed I had nothing to do when I tried to clean the house. It seemed it was not my house. Now I feel better, because I've got time to do whatever I want instead of looking for lost things or complaining because an appointment I have missed. First, I felt I was betraying my family not being a Messie, because all of us have always been like this. I think now it is easier and I hope it is easier for you too.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.
