GOOD ENOUGH and MIRACLE!

"Civilization is a limitless multiplication of unnecessary necessaries."
Mark Twain

If this were true in Mark Twain's day, it is doubly true in ours.

Let's defy this saying by limiting ourselves and subtracting instead of multiplying.

1. Message of the Day

WHEN "GOOD ENOUGH" IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Perfectionism is a hindrance to organizing. Most of the time "just do it" works just fine. Don't get hung up with cleaning the oven perfectly or spending time whitening your shoe laces while the house is cluttered and messy around you. Leave unimportant details behind as you concentrate on getting the big job done.

But there is one exception where you need to pay attention to detail. Once you have gotten the house pretty much under control organizationally and are shifting into the beauty mode, do not carelessly fail to finish the project completely. Do not leave your purse in the living room chair even though that is where you used to put it. Remove the pile of mail off the table.

The beautiful effect of all your work is blunted by just a few carelessly placed items that you would not have worried about in previous times.

Raise your standards. Simply put, when you have gotten this far, go all the way to make your house sparkle with beautiful clear surfaces.

In our family, we move the garbage cans out of sight when they are emptied at the curb.

In our family, we hang up the towels neatly after bathing.

5. Quote of the Day

It's not what you do once in a while, it's what you do day in and day out that
makes the difference.

7. From the Trenches - MIRACLE

I left the house this morning with tears in my ears, tears of joy and amazement. On this Friday morning, I looked around the house just before I left and realized that I could have someone over RIGHT NOW and not have to be embarrassed about the condition
of my house. Folks could drop in and I could say "Come on in!" without following it with "Ignore the house-it's a mess." They could sit down in an empty chair at the clear dining room table and have a cup of coffee. They could take their coffee into the living room and sit on a clear sofa and put their coffee on a coaster on the coffee table-RIGHT NOW, without me having to move anything, AND on a Friday, when the house is usually at its worst. This is nothing short of miraculous. It isn't perfect, and I'm not done yet, but a major milestone has been reached.
