1. Message of the Day

GOOD FOLKS

Somebody needs to say it:

Messies are some of the nicest people in the world!

We need to stop and reflect on that because we tend to be very hard on ourselves because of our messy lifestyle. It is true that we do struggle with organization. Yes, clutter does keep us from performing our best in many areas of our lives. It is true that it stresses some of our important relationships. It puts us under tension. Sometimes, because of our powerlessness in the face of the problem, it makes us ashamed.

But there is more to the story. The other side of the story is
that Messies in general have some very positive characteristics. We tend to be very people oriented, are very willing to help others, love animals, are committed to doing certain things very well, and are intellectually oriented. In addition we are
sensitive, attuned to the environment, respectful of the past, and just plain nice.

There is a certain beneficial energy in the Messie mindset.
If our characteristics are properly controlled and we begin to set up organizational patterns that work, we can enjoy and share many of those good characteristics that are a part of so many of us. In order to be the best that we can be, let's renew our energy to overcome the cluttered lifestyle that holds us back.

FOLLOW THE RULE OF TEN (MINUTES)

Set a timer for ten minutes and attack a hot spot with a vengeance.
Some call it The Ten Minute Tidy.

In our family, we put dirty clothes into the hamper as soon

In our family, we make our beds before we leave our room

John Dryden

GOOD HABITS

I joined the Organizer Lady list and THAT has helped
TREMENDOUSLY!! I have begun a "To Do" Notebook and filed my past lists into it. Set up notebooks for the future with monthly divider pages for easy filing. I began using the "quartered" method of To Do listing....."At Home", "On the Phone, "In the Car" and "On the Computer" are the categories. I fold the paper into quarters and label each space.

(Editor's note: Get a free copy of this "Easy To-Do List"
http://messies.com/index.php/component/content/article?id=11 )

Adopting these FEW methods has allowed me to make MUCH
progress in my house. I am a "frustrated artist" with a Multimedia/Multiverse basis. I am a fan of many authors, TV shows, actors and rock groups. I want to do art and
write stories, so I "gather" things I can see will make other things. I am a confirmed "Good Stuff" addict. I have started avoiding certain places on trash days. I have gotten FAR better at JUST LOOKING.....in fact JUST LOOKING helps me keep my hands to myself and I pick up less.

I am developing new habits about A LOT of household
chores. I am NOT SO MUCH following ALL of the Organizer Lady's methods, but I am making Progress. Which is the PRIMARY slogan of MOST Anonymous groups ..... "Progress, NOT PERFECTION."

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.
Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
