1. Message of the Day

The hidden powerhouse of successful living.

Many mottoes and clever sayings tell us to do one thing or another. An example is, IF YOU GET IT OUT, PUT IT UP. They are good mottos but they just don't go far enough. The reason is that everybody agrees with the admonitions and plans to do them -- sometime.

A casual attitude about how quickly things get done makes for a messie house. One of the main reasons some people are so successful with keeping a neat house is the speed with which they actually get around to doing jobs on a regular basis.

Often this is a one-step process. You take paper off the teabag and before you put it on the counter you zip it into the trash. You take pepper from the cabinet, sprinkle it and put it back without letting it touch the counter. You use the folding stepladder and as you step off the bottom step, begin collapsing it as you walk it back to its storage place. Even when it can't be done in one step, moving items quickly back into place is a linchpin for success in maintenance of organization.

What does this tell us? It tells us that if we want to be organized we need to let very little time pass between the time a something needs to be done and when we do it.

7. From the Trenches

This is going to sound silly, but it helped me.

Turn on the overhead light. If you regularly turn it on, get a slightly brighter bulb. I can see the problems that I've overlooked (that infamous piece of paper, the bag of trash that's been sitting there a week) so much better when the light is brighter than I'm used to.

Sandra's note: Do what it takes to focus visually on what is around you. Using brighter lighting is one good way. Too often we just don't notice it until somebody rings the door bell.
