Graceless is when you or a guest steps through the front door and it does not reflect charm. It just is there in some form that weighs your spirit down when you look at it. Grace in your home comes from several sources: Order - Nothing out of place is the beginning. Clear surfaces - Uncluttered surfaces such as the floor, table tops, and counters give a sense of peace and order. Balanced furnishings - Too many pieces or poor placement are frequent offenders. Attention to decorating basics. Color harmony and style compatibility are just two important concepts. Educate yourself by reading, visiting lovely homes, and talking to savvy friends. Once beauty and harmony have been established you will find you don't want to spoil the aura by leaving things out of place. Follow the tried and true principle: "When you get it out, put it away --- without delay." ----------------------------------- 2. Habit of the Day KEEP THE CAR LOOKING NEAT by taking in debris and other items each time you go into the house. When you stop at a service station or any other area with a trash can, dejunk your car. Tell the children (and yourself) that you are feeding Mr. Trash can. Vacuum at home or at the service station. Obtain some kind of container to hold the trash in the car. Prepare for cleanliness and then follow through. Treat yourself to a professional car cleaning once in a while. Preparing to take it in spotlights the actual condition of the car (like having someone come clean the house does.) ----------------------------------- 3. Sharing Our Successes I love the laundry posts! I used to measure how much laundry I had by the feet, not the load. I could hardly wade through it. It was about one year into this program that I finally realized I did not have to do it all at once. I thought there needed to be a "day" for laundry. All or nothing thinking I did not realize I had. So I started by putting one load in the washer at night after dishes and putting it in the dryer to fold the next morning followed with putting a load in to fold that evening while one load is washing. Now, I don't have enough laundry to do that. So twice a week! I have been keeping up with that for two years now. I also am placing items in the drawer that stack on each other (i.e. t-shirts) in a slightly staggered fashion moving the next one back about a half-inch so that I can easily see each item and pull out the one I need. Money in the bank and just never sat down long enough to write out the checks. Another problem was that if I did them on the dining room table the cats would bother me and make a mess. So I decided to try online bill payment with my checking account. As the bills come in I try to schedule the payments right away. I can schedule them to be paid by the due date, mark them in my check register and file the paid statement in the bill hanging file. The trick is to do them as they come in. --------------------------------------- 8. More Info Repetition is important. Forward to friends if desired but not to other sites.
