1. Message of the Day

SHARING CLIPPINGS

Cutting out clippings from newspapers and magazines and sending them to friends seems like such a good idea. It is sharing knowledge and knowledge is always good. Right? It is helping others because some of these clippings are very useful. That's good, right? And perhaps, best of all, it is keeping up personal contacts. When you clip an article and send it to someone, it shows you are thinking about them in a meaningful way. It shows you care? Isn't that very good?

Sharing important information, helping others, and keeping up personal contacts are all wonderful qualities when done in the right way. However, for a Messie, the habit of constantly clipping and sending articles is among the most destructive and seductive habits of the Messie lifestyle.

I don't need to tell you how many newspapers and magazines we are forced to keep and feel guilty about if we don't read because of this habit. The pressure to find the right ones, to get them in the mail, perhaps even to file them in case we find someone in need undercuts recovery from the Messie lifestyle. The space this habit takes up in our house is not as bad as the space it takes up in our heads. The compulsion to help others in this way is a very heavy weight.

If you have fallen into this habit, think about what it is doing to you. No matter how compelling and good it seems, consider giving it up. The first step is ditching those magazines and newspapers you are saving to go through.
Hard? You betcha!
Necessary? Absolutely!

4. Family Reminder of the Day

In our family, we wash, dry, fold, and put up our clothes as one continuous job.

In our family, we make sure all trash goes into the trash basket.

5. Quote of the Day

"If you want a golden rule that will fit everybody, this is it:

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be
useful, or believe to be beautiful."

FOLDING CLOTHES

To whomever asked about making folding clothes fun, I know you are overwhelmed right now and it will not be any fun at all unless you think of all that you have done every time you get a stack folded and put away. I sometimes find myself putting off the folding and just leaving the basket at the foot of the bed, but I have found that just doing it as soon as possible may not be fun, but it does get it out of the way and I don't have to see that basket every time I go into the bedroom, or even come down the hall. Right now I am a grandmother with only dh at home, but I have had as many as 4 boys under 6 and 5 adults in the house at one time for 11 months!
That was a real adventure!

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.
