1. Message of the Day

ENGAGED IN A RAGEFUL DANCE

Messiness is not always an individual matter. Sometimes the house is just the floor on which we do a dance of disorganization with others. It may be that someone in the house (maybe you) is resisting keeping the house nicer because he or she wants to show anger. An example may be a child who is leaving stuff around the house, not cleaning up the room as a statement of independence. Or a spouse who leaves things messy as a weapon in a family conflict. A more subtle example is that deep in your own heart you may be resisting being made to do what you don't want to do. Maybe you are angry about the nature of life that forces you to spend your time doing grunge jobs that you hate. Or maybe it is the voice of your mom, the neatness police, echoing from the past. Our messy behavior may have deep roots for some people that need to be considered because the rageful dance is very destructive to moving forward in neatness.

3. Habit of the Day

DO THINGS ASAP.

EMPTY THE DISHWASHER as soon as possible after it is finished washing. An unloaded dishwasher causes the sink to gather dishes. Yuck! Bad habit!

HANDLE YOUR MAIL today and every day. The build-up of mail and other papers is the single worst clutter problem. Yuck, yuck!
--------------------------------------

4. Family Reminder of the Day

Leave no trace. The scouts have a rule that when you leave an area you should leave no trash showing you have been in the area.
--------------------------------------

5. Quote of the Day

Writing about sleep, William Shakespeare wrote,

"Balm of hurt minds, Great nature's second course, Chief nourishment in life's feast."

Be sure you get to bed early enough to be rested for
your day's activities.

7. From the Trenches - CLEAR THINKING

The other thing I decided was I am not responsible for every little thing in the house, just because I'm the "SAHM". So, everyone has chores, even the 4 yr old. She swifts, puts laundry into the front loading washer, and puts her clothes away from the dry clothes basket. If you have several children and a husband, you shouldn't have to do anything but cook, maybe vacuum the main rooms, and oversee everything else. One of the tenets of Sandra's message is you don't have to do it all! So what if the  vacuuming isn't perfect? You didn't have to do it. So what if the dusting missed a little spot one week? They'll catch it next time. Children can properly do anything you
inspect and expect. My little one keeps her underwear sorted in baskets she can reach--it took me weeks to get her trained, but I no longer do it for her. I don't put my husband's underwear away either--that's his job.

Are you hitting a wall with your organizing?
Jackie said, “It’s the hitting the wall that makes this class work.  We get stuck, you get us unstuck, and we keep going.”

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN
Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.
Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
