1. Message of the Day

IN A TIMELY FASHION

You are undoubtedly a hard working person who works diligently doing the many jobs that are required around the house. They are things like:

Washing, drying, folding and putting away the laundry Unloading and loading the dishwasher Putting up and/or filing papers Discarding useless stuff Various cleaning chores.

But the question is: Are they done in a timely fashion? One of the characteristics of those of us who are Messies is we let things remain undone just a l-i-t-t-l-e bit too long (or maybe a lot too long) before we get around to doing them. More organized folks get around to doing things much more quickly than we do. Maybe one of the things we can do to get our organization train back on track and moving forward is just to hop to doing each job just as quickly as we can.

3. Habit of the Day

JUST DO IT - Do not wait till you feel like it. Just move your body through the motions like a robot if that is all you can do. Face the fact that some things do not inspire. It is nice to want to. But do not wait for the humor to hit you. Just do it.
--------------------------------------

4. Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.

In our family, we don't make messes or create work for others.

In our family, we don't boss others. We focus on our own responsibilities.

5. Quote of the Day

J.P. Morgan said,

"A man always has two reasons for doing anything -- a good reason and the real reason."

This is also true of not doing things. You have good reasons for not getting them done. But what is the real reason?

6. Question of the Day

What can you do that is new that will move you in the right direction? A new product? A new habit? A new way of thinking?

Tell us by posting on Friends-of-The-Organizer-Lady.

INSIGHTS ABOUT WHY I KEPT MY STUFF

I never learned nor had a feel for "what should be thrown away" and "what should be kept." I was afraid of throwing something out because I was sure that as soon as I did, I would "need it". I still have a problem with tossing metal juice lids from frozen juice, and bottled water bottles. It took a L-O-N-G time to get to that point (but I did!).

I felt overwhelmed and powerless - mentally frozen and physically exhausted just thinking about it. I just couldn't bring myself to deal with doing all this cleaning and de-cluttering. It was too much for me, so I avoided it by "scrubbing cracks with a toothpick" to make myself feel that I accomplished something while ignoring the "real problem."

From Sandra: We face these ideas so we can challenge them.

(Further thanks to Carol for her insights.)

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
