As we change, the house changes and as the house changes,
in an amazing way so does the whole of our lives.

Take ownership of your house one area at a time. When I lived a cluttered life, part of the reason was because I did not really think that I had the responsibility or the power to unclutter.

Things in my house had the power. They could come and go as they pleased. And of course, they seldom left once they came in.

Now, I know I have both the power and the responsibility for maintaining clear surfaces.
That means I can make a decision, right or wrong (and there will be some wrong decisions), to discard, move, or store any item or paper that is cluttering up my house.

You own the areas of your house.

Set a timer for fifteen minutes at a time, put on your battle attitude, and take ownership of the area you choose to work on. Do this day after day and battle by battle the war will be won.

2. Habit of the Day

Commit for just this one day.

FOLLOW THE 80/20 RULE - Identify and do only the few things that will make a serious impact. The top twenty percent in importance of the necessary things to do will
make an eighty percent change in your life.

3. Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.

In our family, we are willing to help others where necessary because we are a team.

In our family, we don't make messes or create work for others.

In our family, we don't boss others. We focus on our own responsibilities.

4. Quote of the Day

Change is a process, not an event.

Real change can only happen slowly. Make progress, solidify your gain, make more progress. Participate in the process. The change will come.

5. Question of the Day

Last day for this question. How would you describe your ideal home? It will help you to verbalize it using the words, In my ideal house I see...

Tell us by posting on Friends-of-The-Organizer-Lady.

6. From the Trenches

Set a timer and do 10 minutes only - THEN reward yourself. The reward is essential - watch 10 minutes TV, have an ice-cream, just something small, but a reward that you
know you have deserved and can repeat when later on, you do another 10 minutes, and have your reward. The reason for the rewards is to engender within you that a little bit of cleaning up often is a good thing, and there is a reward for doing so. Eventually the reward comes from doing the task itself - but that can be a way off yet.

Eventually you will have a little piece of paradise in your house. Make an announcement that this is YOUR space, and NO-One, and I mean NO-One has the right to mess it up, put anything there that does not belong. This is your reminder that one day your house will be tidy too.

Then give yourself some time to make it first priority to keep this place clean. Not a big task every day or you will be discouraged that keeping clean is too much. Just a little bit often will keep the paradise.

When you have achieved this, you do the adjoining piece, or another piece. Step by step you make little restful places in your house. When the mess gets you down, you
go and look at this place, and it will calm you down, or motivate you to do some more.

This was a really important step for me when I began to clean up - and when I need some motivation to keep doing it, this is how I get going again.

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short, "Baby steps, baby steps" in the right direction.

"Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness."
