GOALS and A SIMPLE PLAN

Wanting to do things perfectly, or at least very well, is good.
Sometimes.
When the desire for perfection becomes a requirement, that's extremism.

1. Message of the Day

WHAT IS OUR GOAL?

It is to get to the place where our lives are no longer consumed either by living with clutter or by the struggle to get organized and stay that way. Not too messy, not too neat. A successfully orderly life looks like this. The house is set up to work with us. Our routine keeps us moving in the right direction more or less automatically. Our habits, thought patterns, and emotions have come so much under control that we no longer have to struggle to keep ourselves from drowning in clutter. Eventually, if all goes as planned, keeping the house organized will become more or less a non-issue. It may never be fully automatic for those of us who are Messies by nature. But it sure gets a whale of a lot easier, even serene. Wow! That's a thought!

2. Focus

Try to pick three goals or steps to concentrate on. Do those before you move on to other activities.

What do you really want? Remember Your Dreams!

3. Did You Know?

If “I want to get rid of it but I just can’t” sounds like you and if you are ready to change, this e-booklet is for you.

This is a self-help program designed to make a significant difference in three weeks’ time.

Click here to go to our webpage where you can purchase for $5.00. The ebooklet will be sent to you via email.

4. Habit of the Day

Commit for just this one day.

AVOID CLUTTER - Don't pick it up later; put it up now.

Every minute you procrastinate putting it up is a cluttered minute.
-----------------------------

5. Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.

* In our family, we take responsibility forcompleting the chores assigned to us.

* In our family, we don't complain about our responsibilities.
-----------------------------

6. Quote of the Day

Failure is seldom caused by a major catastrophe.
It is a series of little failures. Success is the same way.

Just keep taking baby steps in the right direction.
-----------------------------

7. Question of the Day

Name four or five things you, and only you, are able to do around the house.

Name four or five things you are doing now which are inappropriate for you because others can take them over with training. Who will you begin to train, and when?

8. From the Trenches (by Janet) Long but good.

Can I make a suggestion? Instead of looking at everything and feeling that it is hopeless, you make for yourself a really small area to keep tidy. It may be some personal space (beside your bed) or it may be the bit that people see immediately when
you open the door, Or it maybe the place that really gets you annoyed. Just choose your own personal organized space. - Not too big - but well defined. (I recommend about 2-4 feet square - no bigger for the first bit)

Then go through that space and you sort through everything that is there. You make 3 piles - stuff that really is JUNK - old receipts, junk mail, cardboard boxes, a single sock. My way of looking at it is "Have I needed this in the last 12 months? Can I put a date or occasion In WILL need it in the next 6 months?" If the answer is NO - throw this lot AWAY for good - no more to be seen. The second pile is "This is too much for me, I think I might need it, and I can't make up my mind" This goes in a box marked "sort later". The third pile is the give always – it is still good, but my neighbor may need it/use it etc.

Don't do all the sorting through at one time - the idea is not to run a marathon, but to teach you some new habits in getting the mess down. Set a timer and do 10 minutes
only - THEN reward yourself. The reward is essential - watch 10 minutes TV, have an ice-cream, just something small, but a reward that you know you have deserved and
can repeat when later on, you do another 10 minutes, and have your reward. The reason for the rewards is to engender within you that a little bit of cleaning up often is a good thing, and there is a reward for doing so. Eventually the reward comes from doing the task itself - but that can be a way off yet.

Eventually you will have a little piece of paradise in your house. Make an announcement that this is YOUR space, and NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, has the right to mess it up, put anything there that does not belong. This is your reminder that one day your house will be tidy too.

Then give yourself some time to make it first priority to keep this place clean. Not a big task every day or you will be discouraged that keeping clean is too much. Just a little bit often will keep the paradise.

When you have achieved this, you do the adjoining piece, or another piece. Step by step you make little restful places in your house. When the mess gets you down, you
go and look at this place, and it will calm you down - or motivate you to do some more.

This was a really important step for me when I began to clean up - and when I need some motivation to keep doing it, this is how I get going again

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
