1. Message of the Day

THE BASIC ABC'S

A. Attitude - Crystallize what you REALLY want. Make your dream shine by writing it down then read it daily. Do whatever it takes to pump up your keen desire for a beautiful and orderly way of life.

B. Be Aware - What do you really need? If you need an overall whole house change use the Mt. Vernon or Mt. Vesuvius methods you find at
http://www.messies.com/index.php/component/content/article?id=11

If you need only isolated change, identify what your hot spots are and make a plan to tackle them.

C. Change Behavior - Nothing becomes different until you do. Altered behavior is the key. Make small consistent changes and, like snow in the spring, your clutter will begin to melt slowly away.

3. Habit of the Day

JUST DO IT - Do not wait till you feel like it. Just move your body through the motions like a robot if that is all you can do. Face the fact that some things do not inspire. Surrender to the concept of boredom. Put on a taped story as your work and listen only as you work on your house. The story will pull you back
to the work. It is nice to want to. But do not wait for the humor to hit you. Just do it.

4. Family Reminder of the Day

In our family, we don't drop our things when we come in the door. We take them and put them where they belong.

In our family, we put dirty clothes into the hamper as soon as we take them off.

5. Quote of the Day

"Everything that slows us down and forces patience,
everything that sets us back into the slow cycles of nature, is a help."

May Sarton, American Writer

6. Question of the Day

Does your disorganized lifestyle interfere with your social or family life? Do you isolate yourself because of the clutter? If the clutter were gone, what would do you different from now to connect to people?.

GETTING HELP

There is a 14 year old boy who is looking for a way to make a little extra money and is willing to do whatever needs to be done. I've hired him for tomorrow and Wednesday from 12:30 - 5:30 p.m. and am trying to figure out where I want him to start. I keep thinking that my spare bedroom (which is supposed to be my scrap booking room) really needs a lot of help. You can hardly walk into this room. I don't know if I should just have him move EVERYTHING out of that room into the living room, and if I should start sorting things that way.

Don't overlook unlikely sources of outside help. If you have hesitated to hire someone, gather up your courage and let that idea seep into your thinking.
You will be surprised how important it can be for you.

But, whatever you do, don't empty the room. You will create a bigger problem than you have now. Make a plan. Group the items into white boxes to containerize and organize the items as you deal with them.

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
