1. Message of the Day

One of the most satisfying aspects of our humanness is sharing ourselves with others. Our spirits find fulfillment when we connect in meaningful ways with family, friends, and others. But when we are ashamed about our clutter, we isolate ourselves both as individuals and in our homes.

When our lives clear up, we are happily able to open up in a new way. That renewed connectedness is one of the wonderful spin-offs of the changes we make in Messies Anonymous.

3. Habit of the Day

Put shoes on at the beginning of every day AND put them in the closet at the end of the day.

No more tripping over them because they are lying on the floor.

No more limitations like not taking the trash out because "I don't have my shoes on."

No more shoes sitting in the living room or around the house.

No more feeling like you are not really ready to work.

No more hunting for your shoes when you need them.

4. Family Reminder of the Day

In our family, we don't drop our things when we come in the door. We take them and put them where they belong.

In our family, we put dirty clothes into the hamper as soon as we take them off.

5. Quote of the Day

I cleaned my house yesterday.
Sure wish you could have seen it.

6. Question of The Day

Does your disorganized lifestyle interfere with your social or family life? Do you isolate yourself because of the clutter? If the clutter were gone, what would do you different from now to connect to people?.

Tell us by posting on Friends-of-The-Organizer-Lady.

7. From the Trenches

My mom was a messie too and she passed away last year so I have 2 houses to dejunk. I have 2 messie teenagers and I used to think that the kids were the problem before I read and started working on Sandra's suggestions. Putting junk in Banker's Boxes helped me a lot because out of sight, out of mind, soon I'll have the will to file it. decide where it should go, or just throw it out! And in the meantime some glorious space has emerged that once was cluttered.

The Take-offs and Landings have helped a lot, too. Whenever I can get 1 or both of my kids to do a 10-minute tidy, I feel like I've accomplished a lot in just a little time and effort. It also reinforces the awareness for me of little jobs that can be done and teaches my kids that they can make a difference
without me nagging them or assigning chores.

Thanks to a Mom on the Moms and Mentors forum at

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet
very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the
right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
