1. Message of the Day

KID POWER

Those with children have a mixed blessing organizationally. When they are young they take a tremendous amount of time to bathe, dress, feed, AND train to do the jobs around the house including their own rooms. Once they are older, they can take a lot of the jobs you previously had.

Kid power is one of the great untapped resources in Messie households. Mundane jobs are a poor use of the time of the adult female of the household.

2. Habit of the Day

Commit for just this one day.

LOOK BACK, REALLY LOOK BACK! When you finish an area or room, go to the door and focus on seeing what you have done. Make yourself tune in visually. Use an empty toilet roll as a spyglass. At night, turn on the lights, go outside and look in as you would if you were a passing stranger. You will see your house with new eyes.

3. Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.

In our family, we clear the table and clean the kitchen together.

In our family, we hang up the towels neatly after bathing.

In our family, we put what we need the next day by the front door the night before

4. Quote of the Day

There is an important reason why we should give a second thought to our personal appearance, even when we're alone: the inner joy we experience when
we look our best.

Sarah Ban Breathmach, Simple Abundance

When you glance at your reflection in the mirror, do you have a satisfied feeling? Before you leave your room, do your hair and face. Dress the way you need to for the day's activities. Even if you are home alone, dress so you can answer the door unexpectedly with confidence. Do you need a haircut, fresh clothes, or maybe you could reevaluate your style?

5. Question of The Day

How would you describe your ideal home? It will help you to verbalize it using the words, In my ideal house I see...

Applying the Mt. Vernon Method

What is the Mt. Vernon Method? click here to find out
http://www.messies.com/index.php/mt-vernon-method

Instead of looking at everything and feeling that it is hopeless, you make for yourself a really small area to keep tidy. It may be some personal space (beside your bed) or it may be the bit that people see immediately when you open the door. Or it maybe the place that really gets you annoyed. Just choose your own personal organized space. Not too big,but well defined. (I recommend about
2-4 feet square - no bigger for the first bit.)

Then go through that space and you sort through everything that is there. You make 3 piles - stuff that really is JUNK - old receipts, junk mail, cardboard boxes, a single sock. My way of looking at it is "Have I needed this in the last 12 months? Can I put a date or occasion In WILL need it in the next 6 months?" If the answer is NO - throw this lot AWAY for good - no more to be seen. The second pile is "This is too much for me, I think I might need it, and I can't make up my mind" This goes in a box marked "sort later". The third pile is for give away - it is still good, but my neighbor may need it/use it etc.

Don't do all the sorting through at one time. The idea is not to run a marathon, but to teach you some new habits in getting the mess down.

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short, "Baby steps, baby steps" in the right direction.

"Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness."
