This list of choices is adapted from week four of the Simple
Six Weeks Program available in easily printable format on

http://messies.com/index.php/a-simple-six-week-program

Choose one and do it today.
  • Rearrange furniture in a room.
  • Plan a garage sale.
  • Handle appropriately all mail on the day it comes.
  • Delete all old emails that are in the current listing.
  • Buy or make a bill organizer, one that hangs on the wall or fits in a drawer.
  • Set up a file system.
  • Set up a holiday box or boxes to hold decorations for each holiday.
  • Read an article or chapter from an organizing book on household organizing.
  • Read an article or chapter on time management.
  • Read a book on home organizing or time management.
Yesterday I decided to empty leftovers from the refrigerator.
So I did it last night. Today I will read a chapter on organizing.
It helps to be reminded and inspired.

3. Habit of the Day

Return something that is out of place each time you go in the direction it belongs. Neat, organized people owe a lot of their neatness to this habit.

--------------------------------------

4. Family Reminder of the Day

"NO BELONGING LEFT BEHIND"

Leave no trace. The scouts have a rule that when you leave an area you should leave no trash showing you have been in the area.

Sounds like a winner for around the house.

5. Quote of the Day

Simplicity is an exact medium between too little and too much.

7. From the Trenches

CHILDREN'S CLOTHES

I used to have a problem with the clothes, we have 2 daughters. I finally bought 2 huge tubs (not sure how many gallons but about 3 ft long and 2 ft high). One is for the oldest, one for the youngest. I store them in my basement laundry room where they are accessible, not in the attic (that is what I used to do).
We have a "fashion show" twice a year and try on things to see what fits. I always pop in a long video during this time so they don't get bored or start complaining.

The out of season clothes go in the tub and the in season go in their closet and drawers. I only keep the very cutest clothes and get rid of the rest. If the tub starts to overflow, it's time to weed out the worn or out-of-style. They don't need more clothes than what can fit in the tub. If something doesn't fit the oldest, I throw it in the youngest's tub for her to grow into. If something doesn't fit the youngest, I hand it down to a friend or get rid of it. My friend's and I swap clothes twice a year when our kid's grow out of them.

If they grow out of something during the season, I stick it in the youngest's tub (if it's the oldest's) or get rid of it (if it's the youngest's). With the tub being in the laundry room I have easy access.
