1. Message of the Day

"IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU"

These are the first words in the bestselling book, "The Purpose Driven Life", by Rick Warren. They are good words for us to weave into our lives as we think about how we live in our houses. It is not about us.

So what if our natural tendency is to be messy?
If that impacts on the contribution we make in the world, we need to overcome it.

So what if we like to collect more than we can control?
If our family can't live in peace and harmony, we need to stop collecting and start discarding.

So what if we have voluminous and exuberant interests, hobbies, and possible projects jamming up our time and space?
We need to pare them down to easily manageable size so we can think sanely about what contributions we can make to others in the world.

God put us on this earth for a purpose. Most of us who are Messies are exceptional people but we have let our exuberant spirits turn into destructive disorder that holds us back. To fulfill the purpose of our existence we need to shake off old desires, habits, and even our relative comfort with clutter.

Tough talk? Yes, I'm afraid so.
Tough change? Definitely.
But oh, so worth it all.

3. Habit of the Day

FOLLOW THE RULE OF TEN (GIVE-AWAY THINGS)

Gather ten things to give away. Scoot them out of the house (preferably to the nearest charity) ASAP. If you can't get them to the charity today, put them in the car to be dropped off next trip or store them in the garage to be picked up by the charity.

4. Family Reminder of the Day

Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.

In our family, each person uses one bath towel for a week.

In our family, we change our bed sheets every two weeks.

5. Quote of the Day

"Do the right thing, not the easy thing."
--------------------------------------

6. Question of the Day

Name a few small things that have been slipping by and causing you trouble. Tell one small thing that you are going to start doing on a regular basis in order to keep things from getting out of control.

Tell us by posting on Friends-of-The-Organizer-Lady.

7. From the Trenches

STOP TALKING, START ACTIONS

I used to have a roommate that was a worse messie than me. We worked opposite shifts, me days and he nights. When I got home the place would be a disaster, and he would have just left for work. I would leave little notes
asking, begging, pleading for him to pick up after himself.

I finally decided enough was enough. I took everything he left in the "public" areas and put it on his bed. After a few days of wet towels off the bathroom floor, dirty dishes off the coffee table, magazines, half started projects left in
the living room all mixed together on his bed, he got the hint and started taking care of his end of things.

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN

Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.

The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.

Or to make it short; Baby steps, baby steps in the right direction.

Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
