Message of the Day - SLACKNESS Your house needs your attention badly. You have let it get in the condition you find it now. To make your situation worse, you have trouble getting up the desire or energy to do anything about it. How are we to think about that? Shall we make excuses? Shall we berate ourselves? Leave the house and find diversion elsewhere? Let's take a reality check. First check out that there is not something physically wrong like low thyroid or a myriad of other low grade chronic disorders that can drain our physical energy. Also make sure you are not battling a low grade depression that zaps you physically and mentally. If these are not true of you, move on to solving the problem. Rather than saying we are lazy, which is a term that attacks us personally and will discourage us from action, let's take another approach. Let's say our behavior is slack and go about tightening it up. Focus on changing behavior not on berating yourself. Do what you have to do. Go about it in many different ways. - Learn new and easier techniques. - Read motivational books. - Stick with your online support group. - Start small, maybe just setting a timer for ten minutes. Then go for it one small step at a time. -------------------------------------- 2. More Help Here You can finally defeat the clutter with the approved SOS Organizing Program. Only $27 per month. From the Trenches AUSTRALIAN PROBLEM SOLVING Hi, Thank you for your book and the website, which have been really useful. I am a combination of the perfectionist, relaxed and sentimental messie but primarily the perfectionist messie. A friend who shared the house with me for two years once told me that she knew why I didn't do housework It was because I am such a perfectionist that a job takes me several times longer than everybody else. She was right too. On the very rare occasions that I washed the floor, I even took off all of the door stops and washed them as well! I have recently had the house renovated and had to move out in order for workmen to get the job done. Moving out was of course a nightmare as you couldn't see some of the floor in my study. Even though friends helped I had to resort to professional packers. Soon after I moved back in a friend loaned me a copy of "The Messies Manual". Less than a week later I gave her back her copy and bought my own. I have been bringing things back into the house gradually so that I do not get overwhelmed and am trying to find homes for everything before I bring the next box in. This is not proving to be as easy as it sounds, however, your "centers" idea, the labeling and the boxes ideas have proved to be very useful. Recently, I established an "Electrical box" in which I keep extension cords, double adapters, light bulbs, batteries, insulation tape and a torch. It will soon have fuse wire, wire cutters and pliers in it. The box is clear plastic and I have used a Dymo labeler to list the contents on the outside, including the location of an extra-long extension cord. Twice lately I have been asked if I had a double adapter and once for a light bulb. I was able to find them all within seconds - in the past I was always buying new ones because I couldn't find the ones I had already. Thank you so much for your book and the ideas in it. I dread to think what things would be like without them. Thanks to Penelope. -------------------------------------- 9. More Info This is a simple program.
