1. Message of the Day - FOLLOW THE URGE
Creating an organized house is a process that goes through several phases - getting it organized, keeping it organized, and, finally, loving it organized.
GETTING IT ORGANIZED
A person who chronically struggles with clutter needs a straight forward and powerful plan
in order to turn that way of life around. Messies Anonymous offers three such plans, Mt.
Vernon for slow but sure organizing, Mt. Vesuvious for emergency and big time organizing
and the newest plan, Mt. Rushmore for gathering a team and rushing through the house
to clear the clutter. (Detailed in newest book 5 Days to a Clutter Free House. We support
any plan you choose from whatever source. Any plan that works for you and is consistently followed has a place.
KEEPING IT ORGANIZED
Once the house is basically organized, you need a plan for maintenance. Our suggestion
is to apply the Keep It Super Simple Flipper plan. The K.I.S.S. plan is designed to meet the need of keeping the house in good shape, clearing clutter on a regular basis as well as household cleanup. A big idea is to change your habits from leaving things out to putting
them back as you use them. This is the famous
STOW AS YOU GO war cry of Messies Anonymous
LOVING IT ORGANIZED
But there is a final instrument in the organizational orchestra. It is the nudge, the itch, and
shall I say it, the love of this way of life. No rules, tips, or strategies can replace the internal desire to keep the house nice in little ways that will never make it to a list or plan. Keep
going until you reach this stage and you will never go back to clutter again.

2. Habit of the Day
Commit for just this one day.
Walk to the trash can with the mail and discard when you first bring it in the house.
Clutter is the product of many unmade decisions.

4. Family Reminder of the Day
Pick one of these reminders or make one of your own to share with your family each day.
In our family, we always flush the toilet immediately.
In our family, we put away toys, games, tools, and stuff we are using immediately.

5. Quote of the Day
There is a color, a tone, a resonance in the well ordered life which
is unknown in the life of disorder.

6. Question of the Day
Name four or five things you, and only you, are able to do around the house.
Name four or five things you are doing now which are inappropriate for you because
others can take them over with training. Who will you begin to train, and when?

7. From the Trenches, from Teresa - TOSSING
A few weeks ago I walked into my 7-year-old son's room, or tried to. It was so bad I could
hardly find a place to step! I know that he hasn't had the best example, so I didn't feel it
would be fair to throw his stuff out, unless I let him do the same to me. So, I got two very large garbage bags and started filling them up. I left the toys that I see him play with a lot, plus the books, and the things that are easily put away. After filling those 2 bags I hauled them out to
the garage and left them there. If I hadn't told him, he would never have known. They've been there a few weeks, and he hasn't asked for anything that is there, although he did want to look inside. I told him that when his room is completely cleaned, with everything in there put away,
he may start going through the bags to see what he has room to keep.
Come to think of it, I may just try this method on myself!
We have a list of questions that we ask of each object being touched during our
"de-cluttering" sessions
Do I like it? Do I Want It? Do I need it? Do I use it? Do I have a place to put it?
Two no's is almost an automatic toss. Only one "no" (usually no place to put it) means that something else needs to be tossed in order to keep it. When he goes through the list, he
usually sees the logic in removing something he no longer uses or needs or
has room for, and has actually been a good example for me!
( Thanks, Teresa!)

MESSIES ANONYMOUS SLOGAN
Please memorize this slogan and post it on your wall.
The secret to success is making very small, yet very consistent, changes.
Or to make it short, "Baby steps, baby steps" in the right direction.
"Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness."
